A man was placed under administrative detention for 10 days after he filed a false police report, information portal xinhuanet.com reported on Tuesday.

The man, surnamed Guo, called Shanghai police claiming a criminal gang was planning a bomb attack during the upcoming Shanghai Expo. The police in Hengshui, Guo's hometown, later dismissed the report as fabricated and then nabbed Guo.

Guo confessed to the police that he set up the false threat in an attempt to avenge a counterfeiting gang who had cheated him.
