The construction of Hebei Hall is on a roll
2010-03-26

Construction of Hebei Hall of the Shanghai Expo 2010 is rolling along to a quick completion.

A dozen workers installed a huge piece of glass onto the façade of the exhibition hall this week. It's one of 34 pieces in the external wall of Hebei Hall. Each piece is 7m high, 3m wide and 1.9cm thick.

Many of the exhibit's walls will be composed of a combination of glass and Jingniu Jade, a patented product molded in one step, said. Zheng Wencheng, project manager.

The whole external wall of the exhibition hall needs 850 square meters of Jingniu Jade. More than 30% of them need to be irregularly shaped materials to fit a curve.

On the construction site, Zhu Jian, a rural migrant worker from Yangzhou, Jiangsu, said he and his colleagues start work at 7am, stop work at 10 pm and often have lunch and dinner on the construction site. More than 130 laborers like Zhu are working day and night for the construction of Hebei Hall.

Ma Hongwei, director of the Hebei Office in the Expo Garden, said he expects to complete overall construction before March 31 and then go on to equipment commissioning, exhibit arrangement and final adjustments in early April.
