The quality of water being piped to the capital from Hebei province will be monitored as it makes its way to Beijing and improved if necessary, Beijing Waterworks Group said on Tuesday.

Beijing, which would face a shortage of water without such schemes, has been relying on water from the neighboring Hebei province to ease its thirst.

If the quality does not meet standards, the water will be treated at facilities on the way rather being treated at water treatment plants in Beijing.
