2010-07-12

Monotonous nightlife is causing few people to go out in Hebei province, the Hebei Daily reported, citing a survey.

The survey, which sampled about 10,000 people living in 11 cities in Hebei, also found that white-collar workers and on-campus university students are the most avid enthusiasts of nightlife, and the most popular activity is get-together dining.

A variety of nighttime interests were represented in the survey. A total of 40.9 percent of respondents would like to go out for dinner at night, 26.5 percent would choose to surf the Internet, 19.8 percent would go to karaoke bars, 19. 4 percent would go to see a movie, 15. 5 percent would go shopping and 13.9 percent would bodybuild. Only 8. 2 percent of respondents preferred cultural activities.

People under the age of 30 are the most likely to participate in nighttime activites. Most activities take place before 10 pm, and only 1.4 percent of respondents said they would participate in nighttime activities after midnight.

People aged between 23 to 30-years-old account for 40.8 percent of all the night owls. People aged between 31 to 35 years old make up 24.9 percent, while people aged between 18 to 22 make up 22.5 percent.

A total of 35.2 percent of the night owls have a monthly salary between 1,000 yuan to 2,000 yuan. People with a salary between 2,000 yuan to 4,000 yuan and those paid less than 1,000 yuan respectively make up 26.8 percent. Only 7.3 percent are paid 4,000 yuan to 6,000 yuan per month.

Of those sampled, 10.8 percent considered nightlife to be imperative; 34.7 percent considered it to be important; 33.4 percent considered nightlife to be unimportant and 21.1 percent were indifferent to nightlife.

Nightlife should be diversified and the price of nightlife activities should be lowered according to 35.2 percent of the respondents. Of those surveyed, 32.5 percent complained that there are no suitable nightlife activities.
