Handan to invest 50 bn yuan in transport infrastrustire

Handan city plans to inject 50 billion yuan in railway, highway and airport development during the 12th Five-Year-Plan period, said Cui Jianguo, director of its municipal transportation Bureau on Wednesday.

The integrated transportation network planning for the next five years has been finished, Cui said.

A 31 billion yuan investment will be used to cover 45 road construction projects, including the building of three important highway sections. The 1.9 billion local road construction plan will be completed by 2015, providing the area will a fully linked up road network.

Handan city is located in southern Hebei province, with Henan to the south, Shandong to the east and Shanxi to the west, and is targeted to be a regional traffic hub connecting the four provinces.

With a 1.2 billion yuan investment boost, the Handan Airport will be enlarged and upgraded from a 3C medium airport to a 4D international airport, capable of landing all aircrafts except the A380. It’s expected to reach a 800,000 yearly passenger throughput and over 7,500 tons freight throughput.

Construction of the 380 kilometer Handan- Huanghua port railway began in April 2010, jointly invested by the Ministry of Railways and the Hebei government with 16.85 billion yuan.
