Renovation of campus buildings continues
2013-04-11

The government will allocate more than 1.3 billion yuan ($210 million) to guarantee the safety and improve the conditions of campus buildings in 2013, a top provincial financing authority said.

The Financial Department of Hebei released the new annual campus buildings project recently, saying cities and counties can get subsidies of about 1.3 billion yuan ($210 million) in 2013 to help their primary and middle schools employ sufficient teachers and make sure teaching equipment, books and sports facilities meet standards.

The project has been going on since 2009, with total financing directly from the provincial government reaching 7.4 billion yuan by the end of 2012. Together with supporting funds financed from local governments, more than 30 billion yuan has gone to this project, exceeding the total planned investment by 2 percent.

By 2012, city and county governments have renovated almost all campus buildings as planned, accounting for 10 percent of the total area of all projects in China.

The general plan for this project was released in 2009. The large area for building renovation and pressure from financing allocation has extended the three-year plan for another two years, the provincial financial department said. The project will be finished in 2013.
