2013-06-28

The coastal city of Cangzhou, in Hebei province, has seen rapid growth in foreign trade in the first five months, with new high-tech products accounting for the greatest increase, and the customs office reporting exports and imports worth more than $956 million, for an increase of 3.6 percent year-on-year.

The city's port on the Bohai Sea is not the only area to see growth, since ports in the cities of Tianjin and Tangshan, in Hebei province, are often handling a lot of large-tonnage ships and can connect with Chinese and foreign cities.

Cangzhou is one of the province's major cities with a strong economy, with balanced foreign trade growth in the first few months and the export value of its agricultural products growing 7.4 percent year-on-year.

Secondary industries also saw rapid growth, with more than half of their major merchandise sustaining the boom, and vehicles, auto parts, and electronic products at the top, increasing more than 50 percent.

The processing business increased 56 percent year-on-year, to more than $103 million for the period and new high-tech products increasing an incredible five-fold over the same last year period and reaching about $41 million.
