China, Japan and ROK hold air pollution summit
2013-12-13

China, Japan and the Republic of Korea will hold a summit to tackle air pollution and promote green industries in Langfang, Hebei province, from Dec 14 to 15.

Around 300 delegates, consisting of governmental officials, scholars and entrepreneurs, from the three nations will participate in the two-day conference to share their experiences and look into opportunities of cooperation.

The China Center for International Economic Exchanges, together with the Japan-China Governmental, Industrial and Academic Cooperation Organization and the Korea International Trade Association, hosted the summit.

“The summit stands out because it discusses environmental protection industries within the scope of East Asia and brings officials and private organizations from three countries to discuss solutions for air pollution,” said Chen Yongjie, deputy secretary-general of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges, at a news conference held on Friday.

He said not only is the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region affected by air pollution, the entire country of China as well as Japan and the Republic of Korea are affected.

“Those two countries have years of experiences in tackling pollution, which is good for China to learn,” said Chen.

The summit will take place at the East Beijing Environmental Protection Industrial Park, about 45 kilometers southeast of Beijing.
